Juvederm Q&A

What is Juvederm®?

Juvederm is a cosmetic injectable categorized as a dermal filler. Instead of addressing wrinkles and lines like Botox®, Juvederm works to restore contours and promote additional facial volume. The process is completely nonsurgical and provides near-instant, long lasting results.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for Juvederm?

To determine if you’re a good candidate for Juvederm treatment, make an appointment with Dr. Malafis. Following a review of your medical history, an in-office exam, and a discussion of your goals for treatment, Dr. Malafis develops a custom treatment plan to align with your individual needs.

In the weeks leading up to treatment, Dr. Malafis recommends avoiding alcohol and medications like aspirin and ibuprofen. You should also let him know about any allergies or underlying medical issues you have.

How does Juvederm work?

Juvederm uses hyaluronic acid to encourage the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins responsible for keeping your skin healthy and youthful. Once Dr. Malafis administers your Juvederm injections it goes to work plumping areas of sagging or wrinkly skin, minimizing its outward appearance.

Juvederm injections contain a small amount of the pain medication lidocaine. This ensures you’re comfortable throughout the entire treatment process.

Does Juvederm present any side-effects?

Juvederm is safe and well-tolerated. That said, it’s perfectly normal to experience mild side-effects following your injections, including:

  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Lumps
  • Bumps
  • Minor pain
  • Itching

Though uncomfortable, these symptoms usually subside within two to four weeks.

What is recovery like following Juvederm injections?

Following your Juvederm injections, Dr. Malafis recommends returning home and resting for at least 24 hours. You should also avoid direct sunlight, strenuous exercise, and wearing makeup for one full day.

Many people notice subtle improvements in their facial appearance right away. Depending on the type of Juvederm used, results can last for six months or up to two years.

If you want younger looking, healthier skin, Juvederm injections are worth considering. Request an appointment at Master Dental today by calling the office or clicking the online scheduling tool.
